SIDWELL RAVES ABOUT PICKFORD AGAINST CHELSEA

BT Sport pundit Steve Sidwell was impressed with the performance of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the Premier League clash at Chelsea. Steve Sidwell was certain that Pickford proved to be the main reason why Everton secured an impressive 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night as he raved about his performance during the game. According to Steve Sidwell, Pickford was absolutely first class  and that he stepped up for an Everton side missing a lot of players through various injuries.

Pickford is the first choice goalkeeper for the England senior national team and he has constantly received knocks in the media for his lack of concentration. However, he was faultless against the Blues as he made nine saves during the game and was rewarded with a score of 8.40 by popular media outlet Whoscored. Pickford was named the best player on the pitch at the end of the game and it was well deserved. His best saves came against Mason Mount and Thiago Silva in the first half and second half respectively.

Mount was denied the chance to score in the first half by Pickford but he could not do anything to stop his national team colleague from giving Chelsea the lead in the 70th minute. The depleted Everton team thereafter fought back to claim an unlikely point as young central defender Jarrad Branthwaite scored the Everton equaliser four minutes after the opener from Mount. The Toffees held on afterwards to secure a very good 1-1 draw. They had come into the game with a fragile confidence on the back of one win in ten games.

Pickford and Everton were scheduled to face Leicester City at home at the weekend before the game was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Foxes camp. They are next in action at Burnley on Boxing Day.
